Led by Dr. Usama Fayyad, the Institute for Experiential AI (EAI) is built around the challenges and opportunities made possible by human-machine collaboration. The institute provides a framework to design, implement, and scale AI-driven technologies in ways that make a true difference to society. Summary:
As a member of the EAI, you will be working closely with our research team and affiliated faculty to provide expert-level technical writing and editing services for research grants. The successful candidate will effectively collaborate with academia and various funding institutions to effectively submit proposals and proactively source opportunities to participate in grant competitions. This is a remote opportunity, with the option to come into the Boston, MA or Portland, ME campus.
Responsibilities:
- Act as leverage to our research team and affiliated faculty to provide editing and writing support for funding opportunity proposals with funding agencies (NSF, NIH, DoD, and other funding agencies).
- Coordinate, develop, write, and process grant applications from conceptual to submission stage while working closely with faculty and staff throughout all phases. Gather information and prepare program budgets for research staff, faculty, and outside agencies.
- Proactively share suitable grant opportunities related to our faculty expertise and goals and proposes grant opportunities.
- Work closely with various offices across the university to identify funding opportunities that align with the strategic directions of the EAI.
- Provide routine and non-routine technical advice, problem solving assistance and answers to questions about funding sources as well as program goals and policies.
- Participate in proposal development meetings and engage in scientific writing for grant applications to federal funding agencies, non-profit funding organizations, and foundations, as well as university intramural opportunities.
- Write, edit, proof-read, and format institutional grant proposals for submission, resubmission, and peer review, including domestic, international, multi-disciplinary, and multi-site project proposals.
- Create, revise, and edit drafts of content submitted by proposal team members including executive summaries, graphics, tables, conclusions, and organization credentials.
- Advise proposal team members regarding rhetorical strategy, help maintain consistency between various pieces of content as details shift and provide close editing of narrative and basic formatting assistance.
- Maintain a master calendar of grants submission deadlines, library of grant proposal support documents, funding templates, associated files, and correspondence.
- Helps identify funding opportunities paired with expertise within the EAI faculty.
- Establishes a procedure manual for grant submissions and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or an advanced degree in science, engineering, computer science or related fields of studies strongly preferred. Graduate degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years in grant-writing experience in an academic setting with knowledge of federal grant guidelines and grant budgets preferred.
- Proven ability to write and submit successful grant applications, particularly large collaborative science, and transdisciplinary grants.
- Thorough understanding of the role of research and grant funding at a research-intensive academic institution.
- Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced
