The Role
The Lead Cloud Economics Specialist drives analytics, automation, and operating processes for cloud cost management, cost attribution, optimization tracking, strategic vendor economics, and product-margin support. Partnering with Finance, Engineering, Product, IT, Procurement, and Data teams, you will turn complex usage and cost data into clear financial insights, scalable reporting, and executive-ready recommendations.
This senior, hands-on role sits at the intersection of Finance, cloud economics, data automation, and engineering support. You will build automated data pipelines, analyze technical cost drivers, and lead through cross-functional influence.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain comprehensive cost reporting across AWS, Azure, GCP, and related hosting environments.
- Improve attribution of infrastructure spend to specific services, teams, products, customers, and cost centers.
- Develop automated data pipelines connecting cloud billing, product usage, employee data, and financial metrics using Python, SQL, APIs, and BI tools.
- Maintain a robust optimization pipeline tracking opportunity size, owners, expected savings, and implementation status.
- Guide cloud commitment, reservation, savings-plan, and renewal decisions through usage baselines and forecast scenarios.
- Analyze strategic vendor spend for platforms like Datadog, Cloudflare, Databricks, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI, and related usage.
- Partner directly with Product and Engineering leadership to translate technical cost trends into actionable financial insights.
- Create executive-ready reports on spend, risks, forecasts, and margin impacts.

Required Qualifications
- 6 to 10+ years of analytical experience in Finance, Cloud Economics, FP&A, Strategic Finance, or Data Analytics.
- Advanced financial modeling capabilities and experience with large datasets.
- Hands-on proficiency with Python (or equivalent scripting language) for data analysis and reporting automation.
- Strong SQL skills alongside experience with BI tools, APIs, and cloud billing data pipelines.
- Proven background analyzing SaaS, infrastructure, cloud, or usage-based cost models.
- Exceptional cross-functional communication and executive presentation skills.
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with Cloud FinOps, SaaS infrastructure economics, AI/LLM token economics, or software gross margin analysis.
- Experience collaborating directly with Product & Engineering organizations.
