Research Fellows (f/m/d)
For the Chair of Geochemistry and Economic Geology
Institut für Angewandte Geowissenschaften (AGW)
We focus our research on hydrothermal ore deposits, geochemistry of geothermal systems, re-mining of mine waste and pollutant dynamics, and wish to develop strong and visible research in these fields. We offer these positions in order to strengthen (1) the LA-ICPMS lab in geochronology and trace element geochemistry research questions and (2) research in hydrothermal ore deposits. Our laboratory is equipped with an excimer laser (Teledyne), a sector field and a quadrupole ICP-MS (Element XR, iCAP QR; ThermoFisher). It is further equipped with XRD, XRF, and stable and clumped isotope analytics. A preference will be given to individuals, who also developed expertise in at least one of these techniques.
Your tasks are:
- to conduct field-based research and develop methods (1) for hydrothermal ore deposits in basins or metamorphic terranes or (2) for mineral analysis with LA-ICPMS in the field of our research focus, and to run the LA-ICPMS lab;
- to publish in international peer-reviewed journals and present research results at scientific meetings;
- teaching undergraduate and graduate courses also in the field (in German after 2 years);
- to develop an own research portfolio and research group with PhD, Master and undergraduate students at the Chair of Geochemistry and Economic Geology;
- to generate multidisciplinary collaboration nationally and internationally and to apply for research grants from public funds and industry.
1. October 2023 or 1. February 2024
- MSc and PhD degree (or equivalent) in geosciences or related subjects with research interests in (1) the genesis of hydrothermal ore deposits or (2) developing methods for the LA-ICPMS technology applied to research questions in the fields named above;
- proven track record in producing high quality publications;
- capacity for interdisciplinary and international teamwork and excellent communication skills.
