Join us as a Controls Engineering Intern with the Tesla Energy Products team! As part of our dynamic team, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside driven Senior Embedded Software and Controls Engineers, contributing to the development of cutting-edge power converters for energy storage and vehicle charging. From firmware architecture to validation and production assistance, you'll be immersed in every aspect of the process, collaborating closely with Hardware, Controls, and Software teams to ensure the delivery of top-quality, safety-critical firmware. This internship offers a unique chance to make a real impact on the world by helping to accelerate the global transition to sustainable energy through innovative engineering solutions.
What You’ll Do - Develop controls strategy and define the supporting algorithms
- Develop dynamic models of the system, and tune controller algorithms accordingly to optimize performance
- Translate algorithms into software implementation, and work with the firmware team to integrate that into the firmware framework
- Test, validate, and troubleshoot controller implementation
- Contribute to the hands-on hardware bring-up and qualification of power converters, and provide essential assistance through lab work for development and debug activities across the entire product lifecycle
- Develop and utilize computer simulations (Matlab/Simulink, HiL, SiL) to investigate new algorithms, modifications, or corner-case events
What You’ll Bring - Ongoing studies in Controls Engineering or similar field; preferred towards the end of Master’s degree
- Appropriate combination of experience developing, implementing, and testing power electronics controls.
- Strong analytical skills with solid device, circuit, and controls theory fundamentals
- Independent working mindset with strong hands-on testing and troubleshooting skills
- Experience with embedded firmware development for real-time controls systems using C code
- Familiarity with grid operation is a strong plus
