Wir suchen einen talentierten Machine Learning Scientist oder Atmospheric Composition Scientist mit KI/ML-Erfahrung, der zur Nutzung von KI/ML bei der Überwachung und Vorhersage der atmosphärischen Zusammensetzung beiträgt. Dies umfasst die explorative Entwicklung von AIFS-COMPO, die Nutzung von KI/ML-basierten Emulatoren der relevanten chemischen und physikalischen Prozesse in IFS-COMPO und die potenzielle Anwendung von KI/ML für die globale Überwachung von Emissionen und Oberflächenflüssen. Als Scientist for Machine Learning (A2) werden Sie sowohl in die CAMS- als auch in die AIFS-Teams eingebunden und von Fachexperten aus beiden Disziplinen unterstützt. Sie werden untersuchen, wie die AIFS oder Elemente des traditionellen IFS-COMPO angepasst und trainiert werden sollten, um Datensätze zur atmosphärischen Zusammensetzung, wie z. B. Analyse- und Reanalysedatensätze, optimal zu nutzen, sowie wie diese neuen Techniken für die Überwachung von Emissionen und natürlichen Flüssen eingesetzt werden könnten. Sie werden an vorderster Front stehen, um die Rolle des maschinellen Lernens für die Überwachung und Vorhersage der atmosphärischen Zusammensetzung zu verstehen.
ECMWF baut ein weltweit führendes, auf maschinellem Lernen basierendes probabilistisches Wettervorhersagesystem (AIFS) auf, um unser bestehendes physikbasiertes System (IFS) zu ergänzen. Wir sind Vorreiter bei der Operationalisierung von Vorhersagemodellen für maschinelles Lernen in diesem Bereich. ECMWF führt nun täglich sowohl deterministische als auch probabilistische AIFS-Vorhersagen durch und stellt Nutzern auf der ganzen Welt offene Daten und Produkte zur Verfügung.
Die globale Vorhersage der atmosphärischen Zusammensetzung mit dem IFS ist ebenfalls ein wichtiger Service des ECMWF. Die Vorhersagen sind eine Kernkomponente des Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS). The Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) provides consistent and quality-controlled information related to air pollution and health, solar energy, greenhouse gases and climate forcing, everywhere in the world. The question of the environmental impacts on human health has received growing interest in recent years, in particular during the COVID-19 crisis. The UN World Health Organisation estimates that over 7 million people worldwide (over 400.000 in Europe) die prematurely due to insufficient air quality. Improving the estimates of the exposure of populations to the main pollutants is a key objective for CAMS in order to increase awareness and support the development of more protective public policies. Another key topical area of CAMS is the estimation of emissions of greenhouse gases using observations in the atmosphere: this is essential to quantify the effectiveness of mitigation policies and guide the development of new ones at city, regional and country level.
