Senior EU Knowledge Lawyer - Data and Tech
Department purpose
Join our EU DDIT team, a network of legal experts spanning key EU and global markets. We provide clients with specialized knowledge in vital regions, offering complete coverage from major EU jurisdictions like Luxembourg, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium, alongside our strong U.K., Middle East, Asia Pacific, and U.S. practices.
Our lawyers possess extensive regulatory experience, driving thought leadership on evolving legal and regulatory landscapes, and helping clients adapt to changes. Our expertise covers a broad spectrum, from advising on AI, data protection, cybersecurity, digital transformation, and IP transactions (including M&A), to handling law enforcement and litigation (including privacy investigations and class actions).
Role purpose
We are seeking an experienced EU Knowledge Lawyer to spearhead our EU DDIT KH team.
This role is based in Europe, ideally located in or near: Luxembourg, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, or Brussels.
You will integrate into the Digital, Data, IP & Technology (DDIT) department.
You will report directly to the Head of the EU Centre of Excellence for Data and Tech, based in Luxembourg.
This is an exciting opportunity to:
Enhance and manage our know-how resources and tools for DDIT across the EU;
Offer expert insights and analysis on EU regulatory frameworks and market trends affecting our clients and practice;
Support our lawyers and clients through training, updates, and answers to queries on EU Data & Tech-related topics;
Participate in our thought leadership activities and business development initiatives.
Role and responsibilities
Monitor and analyze the latest EU regulatory changes and trends in data & tech, assessing their implications for clients across various industries;
Develop and update EU regulatory horizon scanning reports and tools;
Produce compelling client-facing materials, such as brochures, alerts, newsletters, and podcasts, in collaboration with local lawyers, know-how, legal tech, and business development & marketing teams;
Maintain and improve our internal EU know-how database;
Coordinate and conduct comparative surveys and cross-border market studies on DDIT regulatory issues;
Identify and conduct client seminars and training sessions (both internal and external) on EU regulatory matters impacting our clients;
Explore and implement IT solutions and new technologies to enhance the capture, sharing, and communication of our know-how;
Serve as the primary contact and coordinator for EU know-how content related to Data & Tech across the firm;
Key requirements
To excel in this role, you should possess:
Ideally, a lawyer qualification with at least 7 years of relevant experience (no upper limit) or equivalent in-house experience;
Strong technical skills, with a keen interest in the commercial and legal aspects of DDIT;
Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, research, and analytical skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and teams;
Training experience;
Experience working in a cross-border and multicultural environment;
Experience in liaising with industry associations and EU regulators;
Comprehensive knowledge of the European regulatory landscape around DDIT, including the EU AI Act, Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), GDPR, and the Digital Services Act (DSA);
Energy, enthusiasm, and a proactive work ethic;
Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Proficiency in additional European languages (e.g., French and German) is advantageous;
