Senior EU Knowledge Lawyer – Asset Management / Investment Funds
Department purpose
Our Asset Management / Investment Funds team spans our global office network, covering all major financial markets. We offer expertise in key regions, from comprehensive European coverage (Paris, Luxembourg, London, Brussels, Amsterdam, Frankfurt) to our U.S. regulatory practice led from Boston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C. We also have established offices in the Middle East and Asia Pacific, instrumental in shaping regulatory systems there.
Our lawyers provide extensive regulatory experience, leading thought on regulatory developments and assisting clients with lobbying, planning, and implementing changes. We advise on fund structuring, asset management regulation, fund financing, and fund review. Our international team offers comparative advice on regulatory matters, helping clients optimize their business locations and gain a competitive edge.
Role purpose
We seek an experienced EU Knowledge Lawyer to lead our European Know-How Asset Management / Investment Funds team.
This is an exciting opportunity to:
- Develop and maintain know-how resources and tools for the asset management and investment fund industry across the EU;
- Provide expert guidance and analysis on the EU regulatory framework and market developments affecting our asset manager clients and practice;
- Support lawyers and clients with training, updates, and queries on EU fund-related matters;
- Contribute to thought leadership and business development initiatives.
Role and Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze the latest EU regulatory developments impacting the fund/asset management industry, assessing their impact on clients and practice;
- Prepare and update EU regulations horizon scanning reports and tools;
- Produce high-quality client materials (brochures, alerts, newsletters, podcasts) on EU regulatory topics in collaboration with local funds and business development & marketing teams;
- Maintain and enhance our internal EU know-how database;
- Coordinate and conduct comparative surveys and cross-border market studies on fund-related regulatory matters;
- Identify and deliver client seminars and training sessions (internal and external) on EU regulatory matters impacting the fund/asset management industry;
- Explore and implement IT solutions and new technologies to improve the capture, sharing, and communication of our know-how;
- Serve as the main contact and coordinator for EU know-how content related to asset management and investment funds across the firm;
- Liaise and collaborate with the European know-how community, business development, marketing, and other support teams to ensure alignment and consistency of our messages and services.
- Ideally a qualified fund lawyer with at least 7 years of post-qualification experience (no upper limit) or similar in-house / Big 4 experience;
- Excellent technical skills, with a strong interest in the commercial and legal issues relating to asset management and investment funds;
- Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, research and analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively with different stakeholders and teams;
- Experience working in a cross-border and multicultural environment;
- Experience liaising with industry associations and EU regulators;
- Excellent knowledge of the European regulatory framework impacting funds and asset managers, such as UCITS directive, AIFMD, ELTIF, and ideally MiFID, AMLD, and SFDR;
- Energy, enthusiasm, and a pro-active approach to your work;
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Additional European languages (e.g., French and German) are a plus;
- Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential.
