DESY – one of the world's leading research centres with over 2,900 employees across Hamburg and Zeuthen – is decoding the structure and function of matter, from the smallest particles of the universe to the building blocks of life. Now, our Zeuthen Particle Physics Theory group is looking for a driven postdoctoral researcher to push the boundaries of theoretical particle physics.
The group maintains a broad research programme covering perturbative and non-perturbative calculations in the Standard Model as well as lattice field theory. Current members include J. Green, P. Marquard, S. Schaefer, and H. Simma.
Your Role
Conduct cutting-edge research in theoretical particle physics with a focus on lattice gauge theory. You will contribute to the group's core programme and collaborate with an international team of physicists.
What You Bring
- A PhD in theoretical particle physics or an equivalent qualification
- Hands-on experience in lattice quantum field theory computations
Why Join DESY
Work on an international research campus where respectful collaboration and employee well-being come first. DESY is committed to gender equality and offers a family-friendly, collegial atmosphere. You will benefit from flexible working hours, variable part-time and job-sharing models, as well as mobile work of up to 50 percent. As a publicly funded employer, DESY guarantees a secure workplace, an established health-management programme, and an occupational pension scheme. Comprehensive training and development opportunities support your individual career path. Remuneration follows the TV-AVH collective agreement, and a financial supplement for the Deutschland-Ticket is provided at both locations.
The position is limited to 2 + 1 years, starting in Fall 2027. Applications are due by 20 December 2026. DESY actively promotes equal opportunities, diversity, and inclusion and strongly encourages applications from women and candidates with severe disabilities.
