The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With more than 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.

For the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Core Facility, we are looking for a bioinformatician as parental leave replacement. The NGS Core Facility is one of the largest sequencing centers in Europe with a fleet of Illumina NovaSeq 6000, NovaSeq X, NextSeq and MiSeq as well as Oxford Nanopore devices.

Job description:

The sequencing results and the subsequent bioinformatic interpretation of the data will allow for the targeted diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients throughout Germany in the near future. Your task will be to assist us in this important work by developing and optimizing bioinformatic pipelines for quality assurance, data analysis and R&D projects.

Requirements:

Successfully completed university degree (preferable with doctorate) in bioinformatics, computational biology, medical computer science or a comparable (Master) degree
Ability to process complex and large data sets
Substantial experience using Linux command line and utilities
Experience in handling and analyzing data from Next Generation Sequencing platforms like Illumina or Oxford Nanopores using common bioinformatics tools
Basic knowledge in the field of molecular genetics and biostatistics
Fluency in English and at least B1 level in German
Ability to work in a team

You might also have:

Working knowledge of Galaxy
Experience in programming/scripting languages such as Python, R and Bash
Knowledge of scientific computing concepts such as version control (e.g. Git) and workflow management (e.g. Snakemake, Nextflow)
