Our Leipzig International Kindergarten opened in June 2014 and provides over 270 children aged 1 to 6 with a full-day, year-round, early education programme, which aims at supporting each child’s personal, social, academic, physical and emotional development in an international setting.
The Kindergarten Assistant Principal for Operations reports to the Kindergarten Principal and is a member of the Kindergarten Leadership Team, which is responsible for managing the Leipzig International Kindergarten and overseeing the children’s personal, social, academic, physical and emotional development in an international setting whilst also promoting an environment where all students feel safe, secure and valued.
Managing the Kindergarten together with Kindergarten Leadership Team (KLT) - Develop, implement and monitor clear, transparent and effective organizational systems including, but not limited to: scheduling, covering, compensation time, on-boarding, staff holiday and absence planning, calendar creation and maintenance, event management, food services, sign-out systems, afternoon activity systems, and holiday programme sign-up systems.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of federal, state and city health and safety regulations, and ensure Kindergarten compliance.
- Work with educational staff members and KLT members to establish common and consistent expectations in organizational matters and processes, which are then represented in a well-maintained handbook.
- Contribute to the creation and implementation of the Kindergarten Development Plan, especially in organizational matters and matters related to legal health and safety regulations.
- Actively participate in weekly KLT meetings and contribute to the coordination of all Kindergarten developmental efforts.
- Stay abreast of and knowledgeable of all developments in the Kindergarten; able to cover for other Assistant Principals and Principal during absences within the overall average of 30% of total contracted time on child.
- Establish and meet regularly with a Kindergarten Health and Safety Committee to ensure Kindergarten plans, policies, routines and procedures align across all school sections and with accreditation standards.
- Prepare for inspectorates as it relates to the local inspection laws and processes and accreditation visits.
- Ensure that the Kindergarten and its staff are aware of and fully comply with LIS policies and external regulations and accreditation obligations.
- Attend on a bi-weekly basis the Whole House and Whole EY meetings, working with KLT members to plan, organize and facilitate topical meetings as assigned.
- Attend on a monthly basis the Whole House Meetings, working with KLT members to plan, organize and facilitate meetings as assigned.
- Facilitate meetings as well as working groups and committees as determined by KLT.
- Positively represent our conceptual work in public, including conducting tours.
Supporting Educational Staff Members - Organize daily supervision coverage and arrange for internal cover, providing cover oneself on a regular basis within the overall average of 30% of total contracted time on child.
- Ensure that all team members are able to participate in the ongoing optimization of Kindergarten organizational structures and processes and are given a chance to contribute to the creation and evaluation of such.
- Ensure that all of Kindergarten staff members are provided with the motivation, supports and conditions necessary to meet the organizational expectations as set forth by KLT.
- Maintain clear internal staff communication flows with a focus on participation, consistency, availability and transparency.
- Coordinate the supervision of children during staff training and professional development days.
- Assist the Kindergarten Principal in recruitment efforts as needed, including establishing, implementing and reviewing an on-boarding programme for all incoming staff, volunteers and interns.
- Propose, develop and organize continuing professional development opportunities for individuals and teams to grow their knowledge, skill and understanding of organizational matters, particularly during in-service-training days.
- Represent views from colleagues in organizational matters at KLT meetings.
