EC2 is seeking a seasoned Senior Kernel & Hypervisor Engineer to join our virtualization team. You'll play a crucial role in shaping our systems, impacting our business, and enhancing the experience for our customers. Work in a diverse environment with a flexible schedule.

You will be responsible for building the foundation of Amazon Web Services, developing the Nitro Hypervisor and new EC2 instance families.

EC2 Accelerated Nitro focuses on:

Accelerating EC2 Nitro instance families with hypervisors, virtualization, and accelerated computing.
Integrating hardware accelerators (GPUs, FPGAs, etc.) into EC2 instance families to support advanced workloads, such as machine learning, high performance computing, inference, and graphics processing.

Key job responsibilities

Own the entire software development lifecycle, creating new virtualization solutions and influencing virtualization components.
Enhance operational excellence by improving the hypervisor quality and instance platforms.
Mentor other engineers, streamline processes, and collaborate with product and program managers.
Shape the technological roadmap of your team.
Collaborate with EC2 teams globally to develop innovative solutions.
Participate in on-call rotations as part of a team to resolve issues and ensure system resilience.

Collaborate with your manager and principal engineers to deliver on our roadmap.
Guide engineers in your team towards high quality and operational excellence.
Influence the EC2 roadmap with innovative ideas that address customer needs.

About the team

EC2 Accelerated Nitro's mission:

Enable all customer workloads on-premises by developing new EC2 instance families with hardware acceleration devices.
Create the most feature-rich virtualization technology in the cloud.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Berlin, BE, DEU

Basic qualifications

5+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
5+ years of experience using the Linux command line toolbox.
Hands-on experience working on the Linux Kernel.
Proficiency in at least one CPU architecture such as x86 or ARM.
Advanced understanding of performance-critical areas of the Linux Kernel.
