Head of Government Affairs – International

The role will report to Olin’s Vice President – Global Government Affairs. Head of Government Affairs International will protect, maintain and enhance the organization’s reputation with government stakeholders and influencers by acting as a regular interface and communicator for the organization with various government personnel and the trade associations that represent it.
This is a professional who interacts with elected and career officials, trade association representatives, lobbyists and the organization’s executives and managers to exchange information about the organization and its interests and concerns. This role will contribute to the definition of issues and preparation of action plans to protect and enhance Olin’s business in the region.
This newly created position provides the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to develop and execute, together with the VP – Global Government Affairs and senior business leadership, a government affairs strategy for Olin outside the United States.
The Head of Government Affairs – International will proactively identify potential areas of regulatory or legislative opportunity or concern and collaborate with the business to develop and implement appropriate strategies and solutions taking into account long-term and short-term business goals and considerations.
What challenges can you expect?
- Working closely with regional business and site operational leaders, manage international government affairs function to ensure Olin’s interests are represented effectively with government personnel
- Advise business leaders on pertinent policy, regulatory and legislative matters with a focus on delivering solutions that enable the businesses to deliver their strategies
- Work closely with trade association representatives, lobbyists and outside counsel to assure that they are representing Olin’s interests effectively
- Monitor and analyze pending legislation and regulations that may impact the organization’s operations and alert/advise management
- Analyze alternatives and recommends appropriate action; assist in the development of legislative and regulatory strategy
- Plan and coordinate an appropriate contact program between government representatives and senior representatives of the organization; engage plant and division staff on key issues as needed
- Prepare position papers, provide input to news releases and plant promotional materials and work closely with organization’s public affairs representatives on matters relating to government affairs

How do you convince us?
- Degree from a continental European university; other postgraduate degrees including law degree would be a plus
- Minimum seven years government and/or government affairs experience; experience inhouse with a multinational company would be a plus
- Prior experience with the chemical industry regulation and policy preferred
- Fluency in written and spoken English and German (each at least level C1) required; any additional languages a plus
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with people from multi-functional and diverse backgrounds with a strong awareness of and sensitivity to cultural differences
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from all levels of management, employees and vendors
