Summary:

The work schedule for this position is:

Full Time (40 hours per week)

Must be available to travel throughout Germany to support U.S. Mission press and media engagement activities.

Duties

The Public Engagement Assistant (Press & Media) - Post title: Press and Media Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Public Affairs Officer/Spokesperson (PDO/SPOX) or Public Affairs Officer (PAO) designee. He/she monitors host-country press and media coverage of issues of importance to the U.S. Identifies and advises Mission leadership on strategies for promoting accurate, balanced host-country press and media coverage of U.S. foreign policy and American interests; correcting misinformation; and countering disinformation. Builds productive relationships with press and media professionals in person and online. The position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: please address the below factors in your ERA application under "major duties and responsibilities".

Four (4) years of experience in media outlet, think tank, university, NGO, international organization, foreign embassy government office is required, with responsibility for public relations, public affairs, journalism, communications, marketing, managing public relations, outreach events, press conferences, and other media interactions as significant part of the job.

Education Requirements:

A university degree (BA) in Journalism, Communications, International Relations, Political Science, Economics, or local equivalent is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: please address both language requirements English and German in your ERA application (do not forget to include your mother tongue).

English - fluency reading/writing/speaking is required.

German - fluency reading/writing/speaking is required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: please address this factor in your ERA application under major duties and responsibilities.

Must have demonstrated written communication skills in order to write reports, press releases and other products. Provide examples under duties and responsibilities of prior work experience.

Language skills may be tested.

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Germany may receive a compensation package that includes social security benefits, e.g. health, care, unemployment and pension.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
