to work on projects which
- investigate - on a molecular and cellular level - the functions of effector proteins within the soluble branch of the innate immune system (the complement system) and related pathways
- utilise recombinant technology & protein biochemistry to express & purify candidate proteins
- investigate native and recombinant proteins and their ligands in biochemical, biophysical and cell-based activity assays
- entail the education of students at different levels
Your tasks: - Active integration into the research projects of the group
- Driving and supervising a part of ongoing research projects in conjunction with the group leader including work on grant applications and publications
- Co-supervision of staff and students in the group at Bachelor, Master and PhD level
- Teaching undergraduate students & students at bachelor level in practical courses & seminars
Your profile: - Good knowledge and practical experiences in several of the following techniques: i) recombinant protein expression (in different host organisms) and protein purification ii) biochemical and biophysical characterization of protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions (for example one OR more of these: ELISA, SPR, ITC, DLS, NMR, x-ray crystallography OR cryo-EM) iii) Cell characterisation and analysis (e.g. cell culture, bright field and fluorescent microscopy, flow cytometry) iv) Complement immunobiological assays
- Studies in natural sciences with a master's degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmaceutical studies or comparable
- PhD degree and proven track record of successful scientific work
- Reliable and structured way of working
- High motivation and willingness to perform
We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious postdoc with a strong interest in innate immune functions and protein biochemistry. A strong motivation to utilise basic research as a starting point for the development of new immunological applications is desirable. We would welcome a colleague with excellent analytical qualifications, as well as profound organisation and communication skills. (Knowledge of German is helpful but not mandatory at first).
