The Institute of Medical Microbiology (in close collaboration with Department of Hematology, Oncology, Hemostaseology and Stem Cell Transplantation) is seeking a

PhD student (f/m/d)

The part-time position (25,03 hours/week/65%) starts at 1st December 2023 and would be on a fixed-term contract until 31th December 2026. The successful applicant will be offered the opportunity to achieve a doctorate degree.

Tasks

Implemantation of the planned experiments for procject P6 in the DFG-funded Clinical Research Unit 344

• Application of in vivo model systems to explore the effects of timing of malignant clone induction, and age-related factors on the development of myelofibrosis
• Analysis of data from laboratory based studies (readouts: high dimensional flow cytometry, scRNAseq, bead-based cytokine measurement) and drawing conclusions to develop the understanding of the cellular and molecular basis of MPN and myelofibrosis
• Close collaboration with the research team in interpreting results and deriving hypotheses
• Writing scientific reports, protocols, and publications
• Presenting research findings at internal meetings and conferences

Profile

We are looking for a dedicated and highly motivated PhD student who is interested in groundbreaking research in the field of early life immunity and the molecular basis of hematologic disorders. As part of an interdisciplinary research team, we offer the opportunity to participate in an innovative project titled "Influence of onset timing and microbial exposure in early life on MPN-associated myelofibrosis".

• Completed master's degree in biology, medicine, or a related field
• Basic knowledge of cellular and molecular biology techniques
• Familiarity with statistical data analysis and common software
• Motivation for scientific advancement and interest in interdisciplinary collaboration
• Prior knowledge in the field of immunology or infection biology is a plus
• Experience in conducting in vitro and in vivo experiments, preferably in the field of immunotherapy or hematological research
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (Level C1)
