The Dr. Margarete Fischer-Bosch Institute of Clinical Pharmacology, Stuttgart (Director Prof. Dr. M. Schwab) is operated by the Robert Bosch Foundation. Since its foundation in 1973, the institute has emerged as Germany's largest and most renowned research unit in the field of clinical pharmacology. Main research activities concentrate on the influence of genetic and non-genetic factors on the variability of drug efficacy and their contributions to disease development.

Research of Dr. O. Burk addresses the physiological and pathophysiological roles of nuclear receptors in human tissues, with the long-term goal to identify novel therapeutic targets and approaches for the treatment of human diseases, including cancer. Cell and molecular biology techniques are used to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of gene regulation by nuclear receptors.

• Application of a broad spectrum of basic molecular, protein biochemistry and cell biology techniques, including molecular cloning, DNA- and RNA-transfection, high-throughput real-time PCR, protein expression, immunoblotting
• 2D/3D culture and co-culture of primary human cells
• Knock-down of nuclear receptor genes and transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses by state-of-the-art techniques
• Elucidation of molecular mechanisms of gene-regulatory activities of nuclear receptor by ChIP, EMSA and promoter reporter gene analyses
• Characterization of drugs as nuclear receptor ligands by developing and applying in vitro and cell-based assays
• Analysis of experimental datasets using biostatistics and bioinformatics

• Master degree (M.Sc.) in biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, pharmacology or a related discipline
• Experience and solid background in molecular biology and cell culture technologies
• Initial experience in the practical realization of transcriptome and/or cistrome analysis would be beneficial
• Interest in nuclear receptor physiology and pharmacology
• Excellent English written and oral communication skills
