The Collaborative Research Center SFB 1759, "Habitability as a fundamental planetary process," offers a unique opportunity to explore the origins of life from a physio-geo-chemical perspective. Moving beyond Earth-specific biological evolution, this project investigates planetary boundary conditions set by astronomy, physics, and chemistry. We are looking for a dedicated Research Assistant (praedoc) to join our team at the Freie Universität Berlin, Institute of Pharmacy, and contribute to groundbreaking research on potential biosignatures and extraterrestrial habitability.
This position focuses on the availability and stability of organic compounds on planetary surfaces. As a PhD researcher, you will investigate the formation of organic molecules and their precursors under various solar system environments. Your core tasks include:
This role provides an excellent framework for pursuing a doctoral degree within a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment that examines the question of whether we are alone in the universe from multiple scientific perspectives.
To excel in this role, you should hold a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, or a related field by the time of employment. We value candidates with practical experience in chemical or pharmaceutical research, particularly in synthesis and analytics. Strong self-organization skills, the ability to work efficiently under time constraints, and a collaborative mindset are essential. Given the international nature of our research, high proficiency in English is required.
You will be part of a newly established, forward-thinking research center that integrates perspectives from natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. The position is compensated according to salary grade E13 TV-L (75%) and offers a stable research environment through June 2030. Join us in Berlin-Dahlem and help shape a new paradigm in planetary research.
