Research Group Leader
"Micro- and Nano-Structure Technology" (m/f/d)

We offer a full-time position (40 hours per week).

The Institute of Applied Physics (IAP) is engaged in fundamental and applied research in micro- and nanostructure technology, nano- and quantum optics, fiber and waveguide optics, ultrafast optics, and optical system design. A research focus is the design and implementation of elements in micro- and nano-optics and possible applications. You will lead a group in the field of micro- and nano-structure technology. We offer excellent laboratory facilities such as a clean room environment, high-resolution electron beam lithography with the associated resist technology, various dry etching methods, coating technologies and characterization methods (SEM, FIB, optical). The work is carried out in close cooperation with the other work groups at IAP (www.iap.uni-jena.de) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering (www.iof.fraunhofer.de).

Your responsibilities:

• You will take responsibility for a research group in the field of micro- and nanostructure technology.
• You will develop a research profile and independently apply for third-party funding projects to finance your group.
• You are responsible for the process chain for micro- and nanostructures.
• Access management for work groups and external partners to the process chain of micro- and nanostructures.
• Optical system design

Your profile:

• Very good master's or diploma degree in physics or a comparable scientific and technical course of study.
• PhD in physics or a closely related field.
• Extensive experience in advanced manufacturing processes for micro- and nano-optics, expertise in the design of sophisticated photonic elements and their experimental analysis.
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to excellence in research.
• Fluent in German and English.
• Practical experience in electron and laser lithography is desirable.

The advertised position is initially limited to a maximum of 3 years with the possibility of conversion into a permanent position subject to suitability.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). The position is suitable for part-time employment. It will be checked if the wish for a part-time position can be realized within the scope of official feasibility.
