Join the ML Platform team at Zalando and help build the core capabilities powering our AI-native experiences. We provide low-latency features, embeddings, and real-time inference infrastructure that enable our product teams to deliver cutting-edge search, recommendations, and GenAI use cases. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing and scaling these essential ML infrastructure services.
Your Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the design and implementation of scalable real-time feature platforms and distributed ML runtime systems.
- Ensure platform reliability and operational maturity through strong technical judgment and high-quality engineering practices.
- Maintain SLOs for data quality and runtime reliability while implementing robust monitoring and observability.
- Drive automation through Infrastructure as Code (IaC), GitOps, and CI/CD to accelerate development for applied scientists.
- Implement advanced security measures, including identity management and data governance, to ensure compliance by default.
- Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to a strong technical culture through code reviews and knowledge sharing.
What You Bring
- Over 5 years of experience in building ML infrastructure or large-scale distributed systems on cloud platforms like AWS/EKS.
- Deep expertise in containerization (Docker), Kubernetes, and streaming technologies such as Kafka or Spark.
- Practical experience with data/feature engineering pipelines and familiarity with feature stores like Feast or SageMaker.
- Proven ability to design low-latency systems that handle high throughput and strict performance targets.
- Familiarity with operationalizing Kubernetes-native ML workloads using Triton, MLflow, or similar tools.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams of engineers and scientists.
