Materials Engineer

The Client:
A world leader in the energy and telecom cable system industry; with a global presence and over 140 years of experience.
The Role:
- Research, development and optimization of rubber, thermoplastic and elastomer compounds as well as insulation and sheathing materials.
- Responsible for the design of experiments, testing and documentation.
- Evaluating the development of samples in the R&D Centre.
- Improve and develop new rubber formulations, including:
- Examine technical feasibility in relation to customer enquiries.
- Developing research and experimental methods.
- Maintain an efficient documentation process for all experiments.
- Report progress back to management and communicate test results back to customers.
- Liaising with customers in relation to feedback and coordinating internally.
- Development of specifications of new compounds/ products, managing the quality and process parameters.
- Obtain knowledge from multiple sources and be the technical point of contact for the laboratory, production as well as sales and management; technical support includes:
- Execute and follow up lab and production tests.
- Create and maintain technical data sheets, comparative charts and tables.
- Gain an insight into current production processes and techniques through interaction with production.
- Participate in cross-division support activities by providing technical advice and working collaboratively with production, quality, cable design and product management.
- Implementation and monitoring of development projects.
- Approval of materials and compounds.
- Definition of material and process engineering parameters.
Candidate Profile:
- Prior work experience in a technical role and/or degree educated, specialising in chemistry, materials, or a relevant subject.
- Technical expertise relating to rubber is desired but non-essential – knowledge can be developed.
- Formulation development, testing and optimization experience.
- Language requirement, German (Native or Fluent) and English (Professional or better)
- Passionate about chemistry, a real curious individual who likes to develop new ideas and think in innovative and creative ways.
- Able to provide technical support in all functional areas.
- Systematic and independent way of working.
- Excellent communication in writing and speaking.
- Willingness to eventual work, across multiple locations; locally and within Europe.
