 The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Faculty of Natural Sciences I, Institute of Pharmacy, has 
 a vacancy for a temporary position until 31.12.2027 at the earliest possible date as a 
 PhD Student (m-w-d) 
 to be filled as part-time (50 %). 
 Remuneration will be paid up to pay group E13 TV-L, depending on the tasks assigned and fulfilment of the 
 personal requirements. 
 The position is a part of a joint project between the Institute of pharmacy at MLU and computational chem-
  istry group at Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry (IPB-Halle). The PhD position will be placed mostly at 
 the computational chemistry group at IPB Halle (AG Davari). 
 Tasks: 
  - Preparation of enzyme data from public databases and transcriptomic data 
 - Development of machine learning (ML) architectures for the prediction of functions and enzyme-substrate 
pairs 
   - Prediction of the recombination landscape of enzyme variants by ML models 
 - Enzyme characterization and preparation of protein mutants 
 - Possibility to get a doctoral degree is given 
Requirements: 
  - Diploma or Master's degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, cheminformatics, computational 
(bio)chemistry or biophysics or a comparable field 
  - Profound knowledge in one of the following areas: Programming language (Python, C/C++), machine learn-
 ing and deep learning methods (PyTorch, TensorFlow), knowledge management and databases, computa-
  tional biochemistry or biophysics 
  - Experience in state-of-the-art machine learning methods (deep learning, active learning and reinforcement 
learning) 
  - Previous experience in cheminformatics would be an advantage, but is not a prerequisite. 
 - Knowledge of biochemical and enzymological methods, e.g. enzyme characterization and protein muta-
 tions, is an advantage 
  - Creative, curious, team-oriented and enthusiastic personality
