The Computational Chemistry of Nanomaterials group, led by Prof. Dr. Guido Falk von Rudorff, has an immediate opening for a:

This part-time, fixed-term position (3 years) offers an excellent opportunity for academic qualification (PhD project) in accordance with § 65 HHG i. V. m. WissZeitVG.
Our newly established lab (nablachem.org) focuses on:
- Investigating how molecular and material properties change with local modifications, such as atom replacement. We use quantum mechanics to optimize materials and predict properties without exhaustive trial-and-error.
- Developing methods to obtain property gradients in computational chemistry, using quantum chemistry methods.
- Applying gradient information efficiently in machine learning.
Specific research projects will be co-developed with the selected candidate.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate in research and teaching in computational chemistry, including preparing and delivering lectures, seminars, and tutorials.
- Assist in the application for and execution of research projects.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field (must be completed by start date).
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Ability to thrive in a team and interdisciplinary setting.
Preferred Skills:
- Basic scripting skills (preferably Python).
- Knowledge of or interest in machine learning or data analysis.
- Experience with scientific computing, particularly atomistic simulations.
- Knowledge of German or willingness to learn it for teaching.
