Junior Research Group Leader (m/f/d)

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist who will be responsible to strengthen our activities in Single Crystal Growth of Quantum Critical or Magnonic Materials. Complex oxides such as Ferrites or Titanates, are known to exhibit interesting and extraordinary physical properties, but are notoriously difficult to prepare as single crystals in appreciable size and quality. The successful applicant will identify relevant single-crystalline materials and develop the growth techniques to prepare them with the demanded size and structural properties. The applicant will have full access to existing in-house activities for thermochemical phase investigation, oxide crystal growth, measurements of structural quality and composition, and sample preparation. A major aim is to seek funding for the research group, e.g., through project applications. The applicant is also expected to publish scientific papers, supervise student works, and to connect to the respective crystal growth and materials physics communities in Germany and Europe.

The position is intended for post-doctoral researchers with not more than 3 year after their PhD that want to reach an international standing and target an academic leadership career. A prerequisite for employment is a completed PhD (at least a submitted thesis) in physics, materials science, inorganic chemistry, mineralogy, materials science, or a related discipline. The successful applicant should have a proven scientific record and experience in either materials synthesis and phase analysis, or in materials physics involving complex oxides, preferentially in combination with hands-on experience in crystal growth. We expect high experimental skills, independent, project-oriented work and a high level of communication and teamwork towards both scientific and technical staff. Relevant experience in student supervision, lecturing or staff management will be appreciated. The applicant should speak English fluently and be at least willing to communicate also in German within a reasonable employment time.

The position is at first limited to three years, an extension of two year is possible. Payment is according to TVöD (Collective agreement for the public sector) including the usual social benefits (30 vacation days in a 5-day week, flexible working hours).
