Support Staff Full-time Replacement Position

The Technologist provides assistance to faculty by managing the use of facilities, supporting established learning objectives, demonstrating skills to students, and completing remedial instructions for those students who require further assistance in mastering the practical skills. The incumbent will also be responsible for the set-up, operation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of equipment. The Technologist provides technical support in matters of a complex nature, which will require a high degree of independent judgment, technical specialization, and experience for this role.
Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department working on-site five days a week at the Conestoga Skilled Trades campus, located at 25 Reuter Drive Cambridge, ON N3E 1A9.
- Demonstrates practical skills and the safe use of equipment
- Provides remedial instruction to those students requiring further assistance in mastering required practical skills
- Guides students toward the successful completion of their shop assignments and projects
- Participates in the evaluation of student performance in the shop, in conjunction with faculty assignment/project requirements
- Maintains shop facilities and equipment, including repairs and preventative maintenance to equipment or sub-contracting the repairs of equipment
- Evaluates and maintains inventory management system of equipment, equipment manuals and supplies, prepares purchase requisitions for student, and shop supplies and machine parts
- Assists Chair in AEF procurement by ensuring a competitive process, verifying pricing, and receiving quotes
- Collaborates with the Health and Safety department by providing documentation and reports, updating shop binders, documenting inventory of supplies and equipment, maintenance repair, shipping, and assessment of hazardous goods
- Establishes and prepares Gift in Kind documentation and works with the industry to secure donations for shops
- Assists in the negotiation of consumables with suppliers
- Works closely with the Purchasing department to ensure supplies and equipment are ordered according to college policies
- Participates in required health and safety, college, and OEM training
- Collaborates with other technologists to ensure consistency within shops
- Monitors the progress of Work Study Student Technician Assistants
- Provides orientation of shop procedures and protocols to new part and full-time technologists, faculty, and student helpers
- Ensures tasks are completed and in line with established outcomes
- Works closely with Facilities Management around shipping and receiving and facilities management
- Organizes and prepares the instructional environment to support the demonstration of practical skills based on established learning objectives
- Develops workshop activities and projects, set-ups, and delivers workshop activities for visiting non-college student
- Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (433A), General Machinist (429A), or Tool and Die Maker (430A)
- Five years of practical industrial experience as a certified Journeyperson
- Experience in robotics and automation is an asset
- Experience in conducting preventative maintenance is an asset
- Certification in Master Cam for 2D Mill, 4/5 Axis Mill, Lathe, 2D and 3D CAD operator is preferred
