PhD Position in Cilia Research (m/f/d)
We have a PhD position (48 months, 65% salary group E 13 V-L) available in the group of Miriam Schmidts at the Center for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, Freiburg University Hospital. The laboratory focusses on rare genetic disease with a special interest in ciliopathies.
The project is part of a newly funded DFG Research Unit (Forscherguppe) FOR5547 (Cilia Dynamics): „Entschlüsselung der Rolle der primären Ziliendynamik in der Gewebe-organisation und –funktion“.
Within this project, we aim to understand the function of ciliary proteins for skeletal development and decipher molecular pathomechanisms in skeletal ciliopathies. This includes generation of model systems using gene editing, transcriptomics and proteomics analyses and advanced imaging techniques including small extracellular vesicle analyses and use of ciliary cAMP biosensors.
What we offer:
This is a translational, highly collaborative project within in a national research consortium, also offering unique opportunities to perform/ highly specialised experiments in partner laboratories. Additional interesting collaborative opportunities arise from local research consortia the laboratory is part of such as SFB1453 Nephgen, https://www.sfb1453.uni-freiburg.de/, CRC1597 Small Data, https://www.smalldata-initiative.de/) and the DFG Excellence Initiative funded Centre for Integrative Biological Signalling Studies (CIBSS) (https://www.cibss.uni-freiburg.de/de/).
Candidate Profile:
- MSc in biology, biochemistry, pharmacy or molecular medicine
- Experience in cell culture, molecular/biochemical techniques and/or zebrafish work is highly desirable
- A strong interest in translational research in the fields of genetics, developmental and cell biology. Interest in short visiting research stays in national collaboration partner laboratories is of advantage.
Candidates should express their specific interest and motivation in a short cover letter, CV and reference letters if available. Please send applications including the usual documentation online by the application portal of the Medical Center – University of Freiburg.
