Oncology Research Scientist (All Genders)

As an Oncology Research Scientist, you conduct research activities in oncology drug discovery to expand and develop the research portfolio and to build a long-term, sustainable pipeline and bring novel, innovative drug candidates to patients.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• You identify, validate and develop therapies in the oncology therapeutic area by independently designing and conducting experiments, assays, and/or procedures of considerable complexity
• In order to develop robust datasets, you drive continuous improvement in methodology, processes and formats through own expertise and experience
• You identify new mechanisms, pathways, and druggable targets for the development of novel, causative therapies in oncology; e.g. tumor-cell intrinsic, microenvironment/immune-oncology and/or cell surface targeting approaches
• Defining and communicating program strategy and associated scientific data is also one of your tasks
• You actively influence research priorities and collaboration by performing comprehensive studies
You work and collaborate in a team with Bayer Pharma colleagues from areas such as biology, bioinformatics, and (bio-) chemistry as well as with external academic partners

• You have a PhD degree in cancer biology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or in an associated field and first professional experience, preferably as Postdoc in an industrial setting
• You demonstrate in-depth scientific knowledge in oncology and you are able to apply that knowledge to drug development in the oncology therapeutic area
• You have an advanced knowledge in oncology disease biology, you are experienced with target identification, and are familiar with skills related to target validation such as using genomic perturbation e.g. CRISPR CAS9, chemical tools, and basic in vitro and in vivo assays
• You have a proven track record as a laboratory experimentalist or project leader with experience in working with biological systems (cells/cell lysates/ex vivo tissues etc.) and a desire to continue in a laboratory-focused role with a high level of experimental vigor and quality
• You preferably bring impactful research experience demonstrated by high-quality publications, patents, and/or presentations at national/international conferences
• You are a fast learner, challenge the status-quo, create a learning environment, and manage innovation to reality
• A high attention to detail, creativity in problem-solving, strong interpersonal skills, proven ability to successfully work independently and as part of teams as well as the ability to build strong relationships with peers and cross-functionally with partners outside of the team round off your profile
• You have excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills in English; German skills are a plus
