Incumbent must be available to travel throughout Germany. This position may be required regularly to support events and VIP visits outside normal working hours.
The Press and Media/Strategic Content Specialist oversees online public engagement through Consulate General Dusseldorf’s digital properties (social media, mobile) and press and media operations, promoting understanding of and support for U.S. policy. Oversees the selection and production of strategic content in English and German for distribution in multiple digital and traditional formats to German audience groups in the Dusseldorf consular district. Develops policies, procedures, and guidelines for the Consulate’s use of evolving digital technologies and for external Consulate communications in crisis situations. Working with countrywide Public Diplomacy (PD) colleagues, coordinates PD strategic planning, audience research, and program evaluation and measurement.
Serves as chief advisor to Consulate General Dusseldorf on policy advocacy through press and media engagement. Identifies long-term trends and emerging policy-relevant issues and advises the Consul General and Mission Germany PD colleagues on strategies for promoting accurate, balanced German press and media coverage in the consular district of U.S. foreign policy and American interests, correcting misinformation, and countering disinformation. Monitors, analyzes, and reports on German press and media coverage in the consular district of issues of importance to the United States. Builds productive relationships with influential press and media professionals in the consular district, including owners, editors, producers, and journalists. Develops and coordinates media tours and journalist training and exchange programs.
Mission Germany is an OSM 5+ post, a large mission located in a country of major importance to the United States. Germany has a high level of global influence and its government is a principal partner with which the United States interacts in all aspects of pressing bilateral, regional, multilateral, and global issues.
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE:
Five (5) years of experience is required in a media outlet, international organization, government, or the private sector. Must have experience in communications, journalism, or public relations and experience in designing and executing multimedia campaigns in digital formats.
Education Requirements:
A university degree in Journalism, Communications, International Relations, Political Science, Business, or local equivalent is required.

German: (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required.
This may be tested.
