THE ROLE

Damen Naval is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel Germany to take on a key role in a prestigious naval shipbuilding project and provide legal support to our German business.

As Senior Legal Counsel Germany, you will collaborate closely with project management and management of Damen Naval Germany, providing insights on legal risks and opportunities. You will draft, negotiate and advise on complex contracts and will provide guidance on a wide range of judicial matters.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As Senior Legal Counsel Germany at Damen Naval you will:

• Provide legal support and guidance to the project and project management.
• Provide expert legal counsel on contracts, legal documents and corporate matters.
• Anticipate and identify legal risks and opportunities, providing timely advice and create legal strategies to address complex situations.
• Represent Damen Naval in judicial and administrative proceedings, negotiations, and high-stakes legal matters with external parties.
• Manage outside counsel for claims, litigation, and legal opinions as required.
• Report to General Counsel Damen Naval.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

To excel in the role, you will need:

• To be a fully qualified German lawyer (1st and 2nd state examination in Germany) with at least 8-10 years of relevant experience in a large business environment.
• Experience in maritime business, defense industry or a similar industry work environment.
• Extensive knowledge and experience across a wide range of judicial matters, specifically international commercial contract law and preferably public procurement law and corporate law.
• Proven ability to develop and execute legal strategies in complex environments, with experience managing significant legal risks and opportunities.
• Demonstrated ability to work in teams consisting of colleagues in different disciplines (commercial and technical) and in high-pressure situations with limited time for assessing alternatives.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with fluency in both German and English.
• Willingness to preferably work in Hamburg and travel to other national and international locations as needed.
• Excellent references antecedents as a pre-employment security screening is a standard part of the recruitment procedure.
• Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required and candidates with NL/EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
