ADVA/Adtran’s Advanced Technology group develops the optical networking technology of the future and initiates their transition into products. We are seeking a motivated and creative engineer or physicist to join our team. This position offers the opportunity to work on innovative projects in the area of coherent optical transmission systems and contribute to the transition of novel technologies into real-world products. Additionally, this role offers the chance to pursue a PhD degree.
Principle duties and essential functions

Conduct research and development in digital signal processing and transceiver architectures for next-generation coherent optical transmission systems.

Creatively apply knowledge and experience in the following fields:
o Optical components and transmission systems design and modelling
o Optical physical layer characterization

Collaborate with national and international partners in funded projects

Serve as internal subproject lead for research and advanced development projects.
Knowledge, skills and experience required
-
Master degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related
-
In-depth knowledge in digital signal processing
-
Knowledge in coherent optical transmission technologies and optical fiber effects

Good programming skills (Python, Matlab, C++)

Ideally hands-on experience in optical transmission labs

Good presentation and communication skills

Innovative, highly motivated personality

Fluent in oral and written English, fluency in German is a plus

Capability to think strategic, innovative, constructive and application-oriented
