Digital Energy Trading can't wait any longer, hence handle the Energy trading activities of the Group and act as the Group´s interface to the wholesale markets for Energy, Natural Gas and Emissions rights (EUA and CER).

Team Structure:

Current-Team set up: 2 Originators, 1 Flow Trader, 3 Sales Traders, 3 Portfolio Managers (PMs), 1 Structured Trader, Swing Trader and the Head of the team (a good team, who like each other with a good spirit and very good collaboration).

Reporting line:

You will report to the Head of Gas Portfolio Management & Trading.

Reason for Vacancy:

The necessity to improve on Portfolio Management and to be more precise, they need to hire an extra person. Two years ago, they were able to do it “quick and dirty”, but now a proper environment is needed. Someone who can look at the analysis, improving on the infrastructure/environment on the Portfolio Management.

Selling points:

• It’s a huge Portfolio of 30-40 Terawatts hrs (TWh) of Gas Portfolio that runs through this analysis per year
• Huge weather dependency/sensitivity
• The leverage on the value you can bring in is quite high
• The freedom to develop hedging strategies with the PMs themselves, instead of be told what to do, meaning you can be self-controlled, coupled with very senior people who will teach you

Products:

Currently trading directional L/S products, but growing more into options, options strategy analytics, weather derivatives to hedge weather dependencies. It is not only the hedging on the existing portfolio, since the products are more diversified.

Weather dependent flexibility products that they are hedging with options approaches, but they are also implementing options, this will be set up for option hedging in the very near future.

The products spectrum is enormous; weather derivatives, options, (Gas) storages, long term contract with flexibility (like swing contracts), forwards and futures.

Next careers steps:

After this role you can become a Portfolio Manager, Option Trader or a Structured Vol. Options Trader (if you become good with volatility structured strategies, sensitivities and structures) or go to an even bigger shop.

Challenges:

• Analyze product and portfolio sensitivities based on Market Data and scenarios using quantitative methods
• Conduct volatility and correlation analyses for relevant trading markets
• Together with the PMs, develop adequate portfolio hedging strategies involving volatility markets and weather derivatives
• Developing and maintaining a database infrastructure in the Gas Portfolio Management area to ensure Data transparency
• Work closely with PMs to develop tools for evaluating and operating Gas PM

Your profile:

• 1 - 4 years of professional experience in the Energy or Finance sector, preferably with a focus on Energy trading/Energy markets

• Junior level is possible, if your coding & mindset are at the right level. But they prefer a bit of experience, unless you are very enthusiastic and hungry to learn

• Hungry, interested and a strong will to improve things
• MSc. in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Data Science/Analytics (ML, AI), or a comparable qualification
• Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, as well as a deep understanding of statistical models and methods
• Strong programming experience (ideally in Python)
• Fluent in English, German: B2 level is the minimum!
• You show initiative, curiosity to understand relationships, and enjoy working in a team
