The Position
We are looking for a talented analytical scientist with strong expertise in mass spectrometry and enzyme activity monitoring
Your position and department:
The chapter “Instrumental Analytics” is part of the R&D Chapter Area “Research Reagents and Design (RRD)” within Roche Diagnostics. Spanned across three different sites, our chapter forms the center of excellence in instrumental analytics and functions as single point of contact within Roche Diagnostics.
Our team with highly skilled and motivated colleagues with a strong team spirit provide stakeholders across departments with a wide plethora of innovative and state of the art analytical methods in order to characterize a wide array of diverse analytes from small molecules and solid surfaces to proteins and oligonucleotides.
You will join an open-minded lab of ten scientists, engineers and lab technicians, flourishing scientific and personal development by an excessive exchange of knowledge and open discussions.
With your expertise in mass spectrometry of proteins and glycoproteins in particular, you will be part of an interdisciplinary team, which set itself the goal to identify and validate glyco-biomarkers for different diseases in order to clear the path for more sensitive and rapid testing methods to aid patients by providing an early detection of their burdens. Here, you will develop analytical procedures for the structural analysis of potential glyco-biomarkers and other proteins within challenging matrices, like body fluids.
Additionally, you will be working on the development of enzyme activity assays for purified enzymes used in next generation sequencing to lay the foundation of reliable and innovative release testing methods for an important and impactful part of our Roche Diagnostics portfolio.
- You develop and optimize instrumental analytical-procedures, mainly (U)HPLC-MS(/MS) and HPLC methods and sample preparation workflows, for the analysis of biopolymers in complex matrices like human samples.
- Your detailed knowledge in LC-MS/MS workflows for proteins and glycoproteins, data analysis, enzyme activity monitoring, chemistry and biochemistry supports the development of innovative procedures and the assessment of technical solutions.
- Maintenance of HPLC and MS instruments including development of machine test procedures and simple repairs complement your profile.
- The job position demands willingness to familiarize with rapidly changing contents associated with continued development of analytical systems and sample handling procedures.
- Requirements include the capability to plan and conduct technical projects in a self-contained manner, yet operating with a high level of team spirit towards one joint goal. You will also lead small, rapidly evolving teams and manage the work-packages across stakeholders.
- You are responsible for the examination and presentation of results to stakeholders across departments as well as for the generation of reports and SOPs.
- You closely follow the current literature in fields connected to your project-focus.
This position requires the willingness to handle potentially infectious material of human origin.
Who you are:
- You are a candidate who wants to influence your own development. You are looking for a company offering the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies. Where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point.
- You have successfully completed university studies (master’s degree) related to chemistry, biochemistry, or biology with a strong background in instrumental analytics and the analysis of proteins via mass spectrometry.
- You have more than 3 years of practical experience in instrumental analytical procedures and you have successfully completed a PhD in this area.
- Particularly in the field of (U)HPLC-MS and you are a dedicated specialist and are intensely familiar with tools for the computer assisted data analysis.
- You have experience in the design and conduction of enzyme activity assays.
- You have experience in the transfer of manual sample preparation workflows to automated solutions.
- You are familiar with the application of molecular biological methods, and you have a well-founded understanding of enzymatic conversions.
- You convince us with your reliability,
