Sustainable Lifestyles Assistant

Hot or Cool Institute is a non-profit think tank that works with experts, organisations, and practice communities on science-based actions to address the magnitude, urgency, and scope of peaceful and deliberate transition towards a sustainable society. Through collaborative methods Hot or Cool:

Conducts policy research and analysis to establish science-based approaches to behaviour change and sustainable lifestyles
Coordinates science-communications and outreach to make complex sustainability issues accessible
Facilitates co-creation of solutions backed by researched understanding and experience
Designs capacity development for implementation and tools for action at individual, business and government levels.

We are looking for a working student to support our work on sustainable lifestyles. The Sustainable Lifestyles Assistant will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of a cutting-edge tool to collect data on sustainable lifestyles levers and barriers across countries and engage in strategies to promote sustainable lifestyles and tackle the climate crisis.

The working student will have access to the extensive network of leading organizations and experts which regularly work with Hot or Cool, and will have the opportunity to further their personal and professional development.

Tasks and responsibilities

The Sustainable Lifestyles Assistant will perform the following tasks:

Collect consumption and carbon footprint data and implement calculations for the continuous development of the Positive and Sustainable Lifestyles (PSL) tool as part of the PSL project
Support the development and use of the PSL database, an interface to present lifestyle data to be used by researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders
Contribute to PSL and Hot or Cool reports and publications on Sustainable Lifestyles
Support the coordination of workshops with multiple partners and attend in person meetings

Requirements

Currently enrolled as a bachelor or master student in Germany in a field related to Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or Statistics
Excellent writing skills and superior command of the English language
Excellent skills in data collection, handling, processing and data quality assessment
Excellent skills in Excel

Desirable skills and competencies

Strong interest in sustainability science and sustainable societies
Good skills in data visualization
Good skills in Statistical Analysis and Statistics and modelling software

This position includes up to 20 working hours per week. Applicants must be based in Germany, with the ability to work from the Hot or Cool Berlin office.

Remuneration: the salary ranges from 14.50-17.50 euros per hour depending on the candidate's previous level of experience.
