About the Team
Become a part of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions' Climate Risk team and support the development and delivery of Climate Risk Service engagements with corporate customers in understanding and taking control of their climate change related risks.
Our team provides comprehensive climate risk assessments and acts as an expertise hub for natural catastrophes/physical climate change risk and risk management. We are collaborating with Risk Engineering Services (RES), Group Cat Perils, as well as Risk, Data & Services (RDS) within the Swiss Re Group.
You will join our efforts to further develop our geospatial data for physical climate and nature risk insights to quantify the impact of climate change on different hazards such as floods and windstorms or water scarcity/availability.
About the Role
Jointly support the development and improvement of risk insights in the area of:
- Climate hazards and vulnerability – interact with our risk engineers to derive vulnerabilities for weather-related hazards and combine them in risk matrices.
- Climate hazards and its impact on nature, e.g. water scarcity/availability – interact with our nature risk experts to quantify the impact of heat waves and drought on water scarcity.
- Climate Risk Mitigation and Adaptation measures – support the climate risk experts in providing risk mitigation and adaptation recommendations for our clients.
About you
- Currently enrolled at a university in the field of natural sciences or a related field with a focus on climate change and/or natural catastrophes.
- Experience in working with climate models (GCMs and/or RCMs), ensemble analysis, uncertainty quantification, and extreme event analysis is a plus.
- Ability to think 'out of the box' and link physical climate risk applications to other areas.
- Ability to break down sophisticated concepts into easily understandable information.
- Self-motivated to drive and own topics independently through to completion.
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills to drive methods, models, data mining, etc.
- Creative solution thinking with a 'can do' mentality.
- Ability to work in a virtual team set-up and motivated to constantly learn and further develop existing skills.
- Excellent communication, technical writing, and presentation skills.
- English language proficiency any other language a plus.
