EMBL is Europe’s life sciences laboratory – an intergovernmental organisation with more than 110 independent research groups and service teams covering the spectrum of molecular biology. With this call, EMBL is seeking a project lead or coordinator for the Data Science Community Support at the pan-EMBL Data Science Centre. Your role, which will be based at the Heidelberg site of the EMBL, will be to spearhead and strategize the Data Science Centre's training and internal data science consulting activities, with a goal of supporting scientists at all career stages across the organisation. You will be entrusted with mentoring of members from EMBL’s analysis Centres and the BioIT support community. Working in conjunction with EMBL's International Centre for Advanced Training (EICAT) and the Head of Training at EMBL-EBI, you will coordinate Data Science-

• A PhD or equivalent in the field of life-science or another scientific, technical or engineering discipline
• Experience in developing and delivering analysis consulting, advanced scientific education and/or training, including experience of course evaluation and impact analysis
• Experience of having applied successfully for funding and of competently delivering your contribution to funded projects would be considered a plus
• Strong facilitation skills
• A thorough understanding of the principles behind adult learning and an ability to coach others to deliver high quality, advanced scientific training and data analysis consulting
• Excellent interpersonal skills, and experience of applying these to working effectively with others spanning different cultures, sectors and career stages
• A strong service ethic and a professional attitude to internal and external clients and collaborators.
• Self-motivation, resilience and flexibility, demonstrated by the ability to independently manage delivery in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment
• Leadership skills
• A high level of integrity, able to build trust and mutual understanding
• Knowledge of tools to provide support and training
• Familiarity with one or multiple programming/scripting languages such as Bash, Python, R
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

You will enjoy experiencing new cultures and be prepared to travel internationally and work occasionally outside normal office hours (including weekends when necessary).

• Working knowledge of learning management systems
• A well-developed network of contacts with experience of advanced scientific training and education and/or instructional design
• An educational qualification
• Experience of using project management tools
• Experience of developing surveys, organising interactive workshops and face-to-face consultations
