A PhD student position is offered as part of the CRC 1054 "Control and plasticity of cell-fate decisions in the immune system (https://www.sfb1054.med.uni-muenchen.de) in the Department of Infection Immunology headed by Prof. Christina Zielinski at the Leibniz-HKI. The department of Infection Immunology addresses fundamental questions about the mechanistic basis of the human immunological memory. We investigate T-cell communication with the local tissue microenvironment in settings of infections, autoimmunity and cancer. This research has unraveled several novel T-cell functions and immunomodulatory factors (Almeida et al., Science Immunology 2022; Matthias et al. Science Transl Med 2019 & J Clin Invest 2020, Chao et al. Nat Immunol, 2023). The department uses novel cutting-edge technologies in the area of high-dimensional single-cell analysis (scRNAseq, Spectral flow cytometry) to translate fundamental insights into translational applications for human health and disease. The prospective candidate will have the opportunity to investigate the regulation of human tissue resident T-cells and their crosstalk with the microenvironment in solid organ transplantation and cancer.

The successful candidate will be hosted in the department of Infection Immunology of Prof. Christina Zielinski. The Leibniz-HKI is embedded in the outstanding scientific environment of the Beutenberg Campus in Jena providing state-of-the-art research facilities and a highly integrative network of life science groups and is imbedded in the Excellence Cluster "Balance of the Microverse". - A master's degree in life sciences or computational biology or MD degree
- Experience in the field of immunology. Experience in flow cytometry, cell culture and in high-dimensional single-cell data analysis and programming skills are a plus
- Very good communication and writing skills
- Organizational skills and meticulous experimentation and analysis practices
- Great enthusiasm for translational science
