 The University of Potsdam was founded in 1991 and has firmly established itself within the scientific landscape and 
 developed into an outstanding economic factor and growth engine for the region. The University of Potsdam excels 
 in acquiring third-party funds, has received multiple teaching awards, has a very service-oriented administration, 
 and has been honored several times for its family-friendly culture. About 21,000 students and 3,000 employees 
 study and work at three campuses – Am Neuen Palais, Griebnitzsee and Golm – at one of Germany’s most scenic 
 institutions of higher education. 
  The Faculty of Science/Institute of Computer Science at the University of Potsdam invites 
 applications for the following position initially limited to 24 months, which will be filled as soon 
 as possible: 
  Academic Staff Member (f/m/d) 
 ID no. 334/2024 
  The successful candidate will work 40 hours per week (100 %). The position is classified within 
 remuneration group 13 of the collective wage agreement among the German states (TV-L). 
 The fixed term of employment is in accordance with Section 2 subsection 1 of the German Act 
 on Fixed-Term Employment Contracts in Science and Academia (Wissenschaftszeitver-
  tragsgesetz or WissZeitVG). If necessary, an extension is possible if personal and legal re-
  quirements are met. 
  Your Field of Work: 
 Aggregating and processing data (Big Data) at a centralized cloud platform is not adequate to 
 meet the requirements of modern applications (e.g., IoT-enabled applications). Geographically 
 distributed resources throughout the network including routers, fog nodes, edge devices, and 
 back-end data centers can all be leveraged for compute and storage. The focus of this re-
  search will be development of large-scale middleware platforms across geo-distributed net-
  works that facilitate realization of modern applications. In particular, the research topics to fo-
  cus on are event-based communication, stream/complex event processing (CEP), and frame-
  works for data analytics.

  The Scope of Your Responsibilities: 
 Independent research and corresponding specialization with a qualification 
 Participation in the research work of the professorship, especially in the area of distributed 
 networked systems and middleware systems 
 Teaching responsibilities including preparation of exercises, teaching material, websites for 
 the courses 
 Further professional development through self-study, conference attendance, scientific con-
  tacts 
  At least one third of the working time is available for in-depth academic work with the aim of 
 obtaining a qualification.
