The Optical Subsystems group develops front-ends for coherent optical transmission modules to interconnect network nodes and data centers. We are expanding and looking for highly motivated and experienced engineers to join us developing the next generations of transmission systems.

Within Optical Subsystems, the Electro-Optical Components team architects, specifies, designs, selects and tests electro optical components to be used in coherent optical transmission modules. Our main goal is to extend the optical reach and transmission bandwidth while at the same time reducing power consumption and floorspace by using the latest technologies.

• Work as an optics engineer within the motivated Electro-Optical Device team
• Develop specifications for the design and implementation of optical components as well as optical modules at data rates of 800 Gbit/s and beyond
• Characterize optical components and modules and apply findings to the specifications, designs, products, services, systems, tools, processes, etc.
• Support discussion with supplier about technology and optical component performance as well as our component specifications
• Support development of requirements for optical and electro-optical components by interacting with System Architects, System Engineering Team and Hardware Board Designers
• Support qualification of optical components within the application as well as support the introduction of such components into manufacturing
• Apply high quality standards and participate in process and tools improvements
• Diagnose complex problems and provide resolution or recommend corrective actions
• Collaborate with other Optics teams located around the globe

A hand-on attitude, paired with ability and the will to work autonomously on specific topics is highly appreciated. Our team is globally distributed and multi-disciplinary, so you can learn and grow in different areas. We are in constant contact with our suppliers to discuss needed components and technologies.

• Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics
• Good technical background in optical telecommunications, coherent DWDM systems, photonic device physics or methods for characterizing such devices
• Analytical mindset solving problems
• Eager to learn and increase knowledge in a rapidly changing area of optical technologies and products
• Very good social competencies and communication skills to work with colleagues from different teams and countries as well as external partner companies
• Capability to work independently and self-organized
• Flexibility and capability to cope with pressure
• Fluent German and English in written and verbal form

It would be nice if you also had:

• Solid programming skills to control of test equipment as well to evaluate and analye test data
• Good understanding of processes for New Product Introduction as well as functional test procedures for coherent
  modules
• Knowledge in state-of-the-art simulation tools used for optical transmission
