THE ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the Wella R&D organization, the (Senior) Principal Toxicologist provides expert support during all stages of a product’s life cycle, with a focus on new product development. You will be in an international and multicultural Product Safety team of 9 people. The role is based in Darmstadt, Germany, and reports to the Director Product Safety.

Key responsibilities include:

• Represent the Product Safety team in business initiatives and technical projects as an integral member of multifunctional teams.
• Prepare safety assessments for cosmetic ingredients and finished hair products for pre-market and market release.
• Generate and evaluate toxicity data with emphasis on (Q)SAR analyses, read-across approaches, and in vitro assays, including study monitoring.
• Identify potential safety concerns with chemical substances, analyze relevant habits & practices data, and create market safety profiles.
• Handle in-market safety questions and issues in collaboration with colleagues in Product Safety, Regulatory Affairs, R&D, QA, and Commercial departments.

WHAT YOU BRING/THE IDEAL FIT

• Ph.D. or M.S. in toxicology, biochemistry, chemistry, biology, or related disciplines
• Work experience with safety/risk assessments in chemicals, cosmetics, and/or pharma/healthcare sectors
• Experience with in silico methods and non-animal safety approaches is a pre
• Structured, self-responsible and solution-oriented way of working
• Helpful attitude when dealing with both internal and external stakeholders
• Distinctive "Business Sense", agility and healthy pragmatism ("hands-on mentality")
• Good communication and presentation skills
• Fluency in English, both oral and written
