At the Fraunhofer Institute for Optronics, System Technology and Image Exploitation IOSB, we turn the latest scientific findings into technical innovations and want to make our contribution to shaping the future. We are currently looking for student support on the topic “Application of Large Language Models in the energy sector”.

Our department cognitive energy systems has been working on the development of AI-based assistance systems for optimal forecasting, planning, operation and monitoring of power systems for many years. Large language models such as ChatGPT or Bard offer the potential for new assistance functions in the energy domain with innovative usage options for energy suppliers or grid operators.

What you will do

• Research on LLMs and information retrieval approaches
• Support in the implementation of a retrieval augmented generation system
• Support in the development of innovative parsing and retrieval components
• Carry out first tests of assisting of energy market and operation tasks with a RAG system

What you bring to the table

• You are enrolled (university / university of applied sciences) and are studying computer science or a comparable subject
• You have already gained initial experience in the area of machine learning or deep learning (ideally with a focus on LLM).
• You have programming knowledge in Python
