This is an exciting opportunity to join ClientEarth as our Deputy Chief Programmes and Impact Officer on a one-year fixed term contract with the potential to become permanent.

The Deputy Chief Programmes & Impact Officer (Deputy CPIO) will support the Chief Programmes and Impact Officer in overseeing all of ClientEarth’s programmatic activity and particularly in ensuring ClientEarth’s programmes deliver high impact against the organisation’s global impact strategy.

You will be responsible for ensuring we have the right programmatic ways of working, systems, and process in place to enable the operationalisation and delivery of our global impact strategy across our programme teams globally – including overseeing the development and implementation of our programmatic planning and MEL, programme management tools and best practice, innovation practices and partnerships approach. The post-holder will also help oversee the scoping and ongoing development of our work in emerging geographies and in our partner regions (the regions without a ClientEarth office presence). You will also deputise for the Chief Programmes and Impact Officer as needed, including representing the organisation externally with funders and other stakeholders. As a member of ClientEarth’s Global Leadership Group, the Deputy CPIO will also have a key leadership role in driving ClientEarth’s mission, values and strategy, while also contributing to global strategic oversight and decision-making.

Main Duties

• Enables the operationalisation of our Global Impact Strategy by orchestrating the development of our programmatic systems and processes, including the systems, processes, tools and best practice for programmatic strategic planning and prioritisation, programme management, knowledge management, innovation and monitoring, evaluation and learning.
• Leads on the strengthening of ClientEarth’s programmatic partnership approach and promotes a best practice approach to external partnerships across our programme teams.
• Oversees the scoping, development and risk management of our work in new/emerging geographies and regions, including Asia, Africa and South America.
• Works with our External Affairs teams to ensure that our programmatic work dovetails with the reporting requirements of funders and other needs for communicating our activities and impact to our external stakeholders.
• Meets with funders and other external stakeholders as required.
• Deputises for the Chief Programmes and Impact Officer as needed.

Role requirements

• Substantial senior experience of scoping, developing and overseeing the delivery of international programmes in a not-for-profit/non-governmental organisation
• Substantial strategic leadership and senior management experience, preferably in an international context
• Organisational change management leadership experience
• Substantial experience of developing and overseeing monitoring, evaluation and learning for non-profit organisations
• Good understanding of the intersection of the law with environmental issues, particularly with a global/international perspective

Salary per location

London - £89,750 per annum

Berlin - €113 365 per annum

Brussels - €7668 per month

Warsaw - 31 559 PLN per month

Madrid - €84 000 per annum
